Knitted Textile Student Awards 2007
Celebrating and rewarding student practitioners of hand or machine knitting and crochet and dispelling stereotypes with new and innovative design
This prestigious award is aimed to encourage and showcase the creative development of design in the areas of knitted textiles. The competition explores the potential of knitting and/or crochet for its inherent qualities of stretch and flexibility, tactile appeal and ability to be worked in three dimensions (optional). Work will be judged on originality, overall concept, innovative use of technique, yarns, materials and colour. Inspiration abounds in recent books such as Sandy Black’s Knitwear in Fashion. Entries can be selected from existing course-work where applicable.
The competition is open with immediate effect
In the first instance all we require is that you send photographs of your work with the coupon below* in a hard-backed envelope, before the 1st August. Please write your name on the reverse of all photos. If you are selected as a finalist you will be requested to send in your work, properly labelled. Final pieces should be limited to a maximum size 75cm wide and 1.5m high that can be displayed on (or suspended alongside) a panel 1m wide by 2m high.
Selected work will be displayed at the Knitting & Stitching Shows at the NEC Birmingham 13th-16th September 2007, Alexandra Palace 11th-14th October 2007 and Harrogate 22rd -25th November 2007 and those finalists will be asked to assist with the exhibition for one day at either venue. Your work will be returned by January 08.
Final judging will take place at Alexandra Palace. The judging panel will include leading textile designers, authors, members of the press and sponsors of the awards.
