1st prize £1,000 for overall best in both design and originality

£350 each for: A/ Lifestyle, B/ Clothing - best in each category
C/ Best Hand Knit/Crochet Finalist (could be from either category.)

This prestigious award is aimed to encourage and showcase new and innovative design in knitted textiles (hand or machine knitted). The competition explores the potential of knitting and/or crochet for its inherent qualities of stretch and flexibility, tactile appeal and ability to be worked in three dimensions (optional).

Work will be judged on originality, overall concept, technique, materials and colour. You can enter existing coursework where applicable. There are 2 main categories;

1. Lifestyle knitting which includes home furnishings and art work
2. Knitting as clothing

In the first instance all we require is that you send photographs of your work with the coupon below* in a hard-backed envelope to arrive before 1st August 08. Please write your name, the category you are entering and contact details on the reverse of all photos. If you are selected as a finalist you will be requested to send in your work, fully labelled by 25th August. Final pieces should be limited to a maximum size 75cm wide and 1.5m high that can be displayed on (or suspended alongside) a panel 1m wide by 2m high. You do not need to determine which category your work should be placed in - this decision will be made by the judges and curators.

Selected work will be displayed at: Knitting & Stitching Shows at the NEC Birmingham 11th-14th September 08, Alexandra Palace 9th-12th October 08 and Harrogate 20th-23rd November 08.

Finalists will be expected to assist with the exhibition for at least 3 full days at one of the venues. In exceptional circumstances you can nominate a friend or relation to stand in for you*.
