We are often approached by groups needing a tutor in their area. Names are placed under counties listed alphabetically to help you find one near you

Cheshire

Patricia Bown gives workshops for beginners in knitting and crochet, and also workshops for those who know the basics in knit and crochet and want to develop their skills, such as using beads, creating embellishments, decorative finishes, simple fashion accessories and Freeform techniques. She also run workshops in basic feltmaking techniques. She is based in Stockport and would be happy to travel a radius of about 20 miles for groups (further for exhibitions and shows, such as the Knitting and Stitching show).

Cornwall

Claire Crompton teaches workshops in a range of knitting subjects including: Understanding a Knitting Pattern (Beginners), Mitred Squares (Domino Knitting), Fair Isle and Intarsia, Professional Finishing Techniques, Knitted Flowers, as well as design workshops for garments and bags. She is the author of ‘The Knitter’s Bible’ series of books. Claire lives in Cornwall, but is happy to travel outside the county to teach.

Pauline Fitzpatrick has been teaching crochet workshops for over 20 years. She teaches all kinds of crochet, beginners, Irish, Colour, Tunisian, Freeform, Textured, and Bead crochet. She also has experience of writing for knitting magzines and specialises in Freeform crochet. She live in South Derbyshire and is happy to travel up to 30 miles.

She teaches hand knitting, machine knitting, crochet, Freeform crochet, knitting with beads and pattern designing workshops at her studio, located in beautiful countryside just outside Hereford. She would be happy to travel anywhere within England/Wales.

Hertfordshire

Sonji Clayton takes workshops on Pattern Writing and Knitwear Design. She has worked as an Associate Lecturer with Select Personnel Lecturers for the past 10 years, as well as independently at various other Further Education and Private Educational Establishments delivering modules/courses and designing & developing course curriculums and materials. Sonji has a City & Guilds B22 in Training & Development, City & Guilds D32/D33 Certified NVQ Awards Assessor and is also a member of the Institute of Learning. She has taught on courses certified by various awarding bodies. Sonji lives in Hertfordshire and is willing to travel outside her county when the booking/contract fee covers travel expenses and/or overnight accommodation, where relevant.

Claire Montgomerie has been involved in teaching textiles since she graduated in 2002. She mainly teaches knitting - beginners, improvers, advance, experimental, adapting and designing patterns. She also teaches crochet, hair pin lace and darning. Claire regularly runs workshops at Loop and The Make Lounge in Islington, and more infrequently at City Lit college in Covent Garden and West Dean College in Sussex. She will also be giving workshops in crochet at the Art in Action Fair in Oxford, and has also taught on French 'Getaway' type courses, so I do not mind travelling, although would be more likely to be available for workshops in London and the South East areas.

Helen Chatterton is a designer/maker based in Liverpool. She has taught at Liverpool Community College, the Voirrey Embroidery Centre and at the Fibre and Clay Contemporary Craft Gallery and Knit Studio since 2007. Workshops include: Learn to Knit, Finishing Techniques, Aran and Cable, Entrelac, Lace Knitting, Sock Knitting and Fair Isle. Helen is willing to travel any reasonable distance.

Ildiko Szabo, is a member of the International Freeform Crochet Guild and has a wealth of experence in this craft. She works as a free-lance costume-maker and fashion & textiles teacher. She offers a range of knitting & crochet workshops ranging from beginners to advanced level and creative Freeform techniques. Isle Of Arran

Lynn Ross has over 30 years experience of teaching adults & children textile arts, giving talks to guilds, etc. & running successful workshops. She teaches workshops in Creative Knitting on the Isle of Arran in conjunction with the Burnside Gallery and would be happy to arrange special workshops for groups who would like an island break. She specialises in Creative Knitting which encourages individuals to develop their own skills in knitting design using yarns and patterns to express ideas, taking inspiration from the environment and history of Arran and knitting traditions such as stitches for lace and ganseys. Lynn is also involved in our 'Knitting In Schools' project.
