The World's longest scarf has already raised thousands for Ty Hafan Children's Hospice in Wales and now it is hoped that it will raise funds for even more children.  Feed The Children was given the scarf so that they could raise much needed funds by selling it.

'Innocent Drinks' will be hosting a knit-in charity event at EAT on the South Bank, near the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday 24 November. They need your help to knit hats to fit their smoothie bottles and so raise money for Age Concern and ExtraCare. They hope to help promote hand knitting as well as raise much needed funds for older people. All drinks and cakes will be provided.

Swiss Fastest Knitter Championships (20.11.05)

The first Swiss Knitting Championships, held in Kirchberg, Switzerland has been won by Helen Rehmann. She knitted 5904 stitches in 60 minutes (equal to more than one and a half stitches per second) and knitted the front of a jumper in just one hour. Hans-Rudolf Wahl, winner in the men's group, managed 3777 stitches in the same time.

The Celtic Team Speed Knitting Challenge Land's End v John O'Groats (12.10.05)

Congratulations to Frances Jago who won this competition for Cornwall against the Scots.  She beat the current Champion Hazel Tindall on the day with Hazel knitting 230 stitches in 3 minutes and Frances knitting 241 in 3 minutes.  Well done to Frances, we think a world record attempt must be in sight!

National Knitting Week: Guinness Book of Records Attempt (01.09.05)

The MetroCentre at Gateshead intends to smash the World Record for the biggest knitted Christmas stocking currently held by the US since 2004 with a stocking measuring 16ft 5" wide x 35.4ft high. Visitors to the centre will be encouraged to help knit the estimated 600 squares required for this new record. More details soon...

Lisa Gentry from Chatham, Louisiana USA has broken the Guinness World Record by her own count. Lisa has applied to the Guinness Book of Records to be a challenger for the title which currently stands at 147 crocheted stitches per minute. Barbara Jean Sonntag of Craig, Colo., has held the title as the undefeated Guinness champion since 1981.

Lisa crocheted 5112 stitches in 30 min. = 170 sts/min

Worldwide KNIT IN PUBLIC Day celebrated at VV Rouleaux Playground Market (11.06.05)

A sunny day heralded an atmosphere buzzing with excitement. The enclosed playground provided an ideal venue for the first of a series of Craft Markets to be held at Holy Trinity school, Pavilion Road, off Sloane Square, London. The delights of 30 different crafts stalls tempted the public with everything from home made smoothies to hand crafted ceramic tiles. Kate (from Westender Stitch'n'Bitch) and Sarah were there with their knitting stall and newly launched knitting kits (GiftedKnits) complete with instructional CD-ROM. There were other knitting stalls and complimentary stalls selling buttons, beads and bags.

Worldwide KNIT IN PUBLIC took place from 3pm. Knitters and non-knitters from all over London took part in this event. The Craft Market will take place throughout the summer.


A 'Knit-pic' took place in Sheffield's city centre on Saturday June 4th as part of the music festival "Devonshire Jam" .
