You could be the fastest knitter or crocheter!

Janet Vermist writes to us from the Netherlands to tell of Miriam Tegels' success at the handwerkbeurs in Zwolle.

Here are the results of the Dutch speed knitting contest, held at Handwerken 2005 in Zwolle on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th February 2005.

Miriam Tegels  won on Sunday managing to knit an incredible 257 stitches in 3 minutes. Second was F. Bult  who achieved 183 stitches. There are plans now for the official Dutch Championship to be held in 2006 (date to be announced).

Fastest Knitting Speed = stocking stitch across a row of 60 stitches, using 4mm (UK8) needles and DK yarn.
Highest score so far is 255 stitches.

Current Record Holder for Fastest Knitter!

Could you beat Hazel Tindall's Record?

Hazel Tindall from Shetland won the world speed knitting championships at Alexandra Palace on Sat 9 Oct. with 255 stitches in 3 minutes.  This set a new record following the previous 245 achieved by Wendy Moorby at the last contest held in New York in 2003.

The British Hand Knitting Confederation (BHKC) sponsored the quest to find the champions to compete in the recent contest held at :

Fastest Crochet Speed:

= 20 stitches in treble crochet and 3 chain turn, using 6mm hook and Aran yarn. Each treble crochet counts as 4 points.
Highest score so far 328 points.
The world speed crochet champion,

Lily Chin from America, retains her title following a friendly battle against the UK’s Susan Briscoe.  Lily did 82 trebles in 3 minutes, achieving a total of 328 points.
