Following the success of last year’s event at Land’s End Cornwall Julia Hopson of Knit Wits Penzance and Matt Hopson of Cornish Natural Yarns are currently organising the largest knitting event in the South-West to be held during National Knitting Week.

The event is being held at The Tregenna Castle Hotel, St Ives on Friday the 13th of October 2006.  All funds raised will be donated to the RNLI.

CELTIC CHALLENGE (CORNISH V SCOTS)

After the Cornish defeat in the fleece to garment competition last year we have again challenged the Scots, who have accepted the re-match. Following their success, the Cornish will again defend their title in the team speed knitting competition.Yet again we shall link up via satellite-making sure that no impropriety takes place in this highly charged, emotional and competitive event.

WORLD RECORD SPEED KNITTING ATTEMPT

Last year our own speed knitter Francis Jago beat the Scottish World Champion Hazel Tindal on the day. She intends on having a go at the UK Speed Knitting Heats, which is officially being held at Alexandra Palace in London. Frances being true Cornish, doesn’t wish to leave Cornwall for London for this event so we are currently organising a high speed cam link from St Ives to London to be viewed on a big screen so she and others can have their attempt witnessed by all at the Palace.
