The
knitting event at Tate Modern was a huge success. Hosted
by Raw Canvas, the young group of project planners at the
Tate and also supported by the BHKC and the young knitting group
Cast Off.
Staged on the lawns between the Tate Modern and the Thames,
young people were flocking to find out how to knit, make jewellery,
felt and various other craft activities. A festive atmosphere
was created by a DJ and 2 marquees were set out alongside
a huge round tarpaulin laid out for those enjoying the felt making.
Everyone had a great time and were keen to learn the basic
techniques and try out some of the latest yarns supplied
by members of the British Hand Knitting Confederation.
The fact that so many young people were already aware that
hand knitting is a hot trend was also most encouraging
and they were all able to go home with a real piece of
creative craft.
